Just burned through the first four books of the Freakn' series (see my review of Jealous and Freakn' for an overall of the series).Already Freakn' Mated is the only one of the series lacking a full-on MFM menage. The two new characters, Jack and Jill, bring a totally different cultural dynamic from the Grayson wolf-pack antics but prove over time they can hold their own against the boisterous family.
This is the only book of the series where the underlying action rises to be a major scaffolding of the story, and Ms. Langlais does a pretty good delivery on the action payout, as well as the always excellent delivery of the erotica payout.
What really holds me spellbound is Ms. Langlais ability to make an unlikable situation (encouraging adultery) and a jerk of a character (Jack) be something you want to turn the page and read more on. She manages to balance Jack's controlling nature against his caring nature and you forgive him. The unlikable situation is explained within the cultural norms of the shifter community (the mating fever cannot be contained). Pretty awesome writing to take these two things and add them in such a way they make the story better.
I also liked seeing non-Caucasian characters in the mix.

I love catching up with my Canadian shifters. Francine is pregnant, the twins are thriving, the ladies are still crazy as all get up and the fellas are still sexy. I enjoyed Jiao and Sheng a brother going to any extremes to protect his sister and keep the promise that he made to his parents about her safety. I loved that Jiao was for Chris they made a sweet couple and Gina and Sheng what a great combination. Gina was my kinda girl, loud, sassy, confident, curvy and knows what she wants and isn't afraid to admit it. I love this series.
Already Freakin Mated
Chris, popular handyman, saving for a home of his own, is out to check out a job. A new couple has moved into the area and wants to get a quote to make a gym in their basement. Stopping by the nice ranch style home, he knocks. When he meets the beautiful woman Jill in the door way, he can't believe she is his mate! There is one major problem, she already has a husband. Jill and her husband (Jack...hehe) don't want to socialize. Even though everyone in the area are shifters just like them, they can't risk being exposed. They are in hiding. Jack sees Chris and slams the door in his face. He sees the looks Chris and Jill are giving each other and he will not stand for it. He knows he has to keep Jill safe from herself and the monster that is chasing them. Chris never wanted a threesome and has a feeling there is more to this marriage than meets the eye. But can he convince Jill to give him a chance. And with this shifter community and Chris's family can Jack and Jill (Jiao & Sheng) keep there secret safe or will their nightmare come for them.
I have to say this Freaking series is one of my favorite series of shifter books out there. I laugh in each book. The situations and the family dynamics are amazing. The sexual tension is awesome and the sex scenes ....wow! This is a stand alone book but if you read them in order you will understand more of the family dynamics. WONDERFUL book 5 stars....Please Eve keep them coming!!

I have to admit, I have a stalking Eve Langlais book problem (and I don't regret it one bit!). I think I've picked up ALL her books at some point or another and I have to say that Already Freakn' Mated is just as good as all the others I've picked up by her. If you haven't read her books before and you love hot, spicy, humor filled Paranormal Romances, then Eve is your girl. Even her Alien stories (which I normally don't really do sci-fi fantasy) has me in a tizzy.
We have Chris and Jill. Then we have Jill's husband Jack. Sounds suspicious right? Well, it is suspicious and you'll never suspect up front. Chris gets contracted by Jack to build a gym in the basement of the house. Jill and Jack are shapeshifters and because of certain circumstances, must stay in door, so the built in kitty gym will help them both out. From their first meeting Jill and Chris know they are mates.. the problem? Jill is already mated. They try to fit their attraction, but you know how these things go ;) Can't fight a mating bond can you?
I loved beginning to end and we'll find another couple who gets mated in this book at the same time, which is cool. We also get to see some other characters from her previous Freakin' Shifter series like Naomi, Francine, Mitchell, Alejandro, Javier, Ethan etc ;) I always like a little catch up with my fav characters later on.
I think my favorite part about Eve's books is that there's always a HEA after each book. Every. Single. Book. I get my HEA (Happily Ever After for those wondering). Don't get me wrong, I do like series where its the same character over and over but the build up/tension/cliffhangers on those drive me CRAZY. I'd rather meet new couples that are entertwined with the other characters from the series for a nice, awesome read every time.
If you like Eve, this is just as good as all her books, maybe even better ) If you haven't tried her you do NOT know what you are missing! (Seriously, I tear through massive amounts of paranormal authors, sometimes a book a day when I'm not busy) And btw I think Eve is just as good as all my huge published authors like Kresley Cole, Gena Showalter, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Yasmine Galenorn etc... JUST as good folks as those authors. ) <3
Reminder NOT MFM. But so very good. I actually skipped this the first time around. Because I thought - already mated.... I didn't want to go there.
Jiao and Sheng are "mated" or not. Basically they are to stop their parents match-making while giving them time to breath. Both of them do not love each other. No breaking into a mated pair here.
Chris knows his mate when he finds her. BUT he finds out she is mated to someone else. How can that be?
This book takes twists and turns as the spunky h loves the H. Excellent, funny, with of course a HEA.
